Another build & ship commission. Another way overdue commission. Anyone else seeing a pattern here?
A bit of commentary about the model itself. I don’t like it all the way around. Way too top-heavy and the construction leaves a lot to be desired. Top that off with extremely limited conversion options and it’s strike three for me. But hey, I wasn’t paid for my opinion, just to build the guy.
Step 1
The upper body was assembled using the techniques I describe in Building a Hollow Mini. The lower body was assembled and also filled, then double pinned at the waist. The head was pinned in place at a slightly different angle than stock.
Step 2
The gap at the joins have been rough filled and sculpting missing details started. I like to do this step before arms are added so I can get at all areas of the body. I call it rough fill as it’s not necessarily the final product. I’ll sculpt details & such, but once it’s dry I might notice some spots that need more work and then I’ll go over the top with new details.
Step 3
Both arms are now attached with 2 pins each. The arms with the fist in front I angled out a bit more to give some semblance of motion. There’s not a whole lot to do with the club arm so it’s attached as close to stock as I could get it. (The casting was warped slightly.) The gaps have been rough filled.
Step 4
Here he is in all of his top-heavy Troll glory. All gaps have been cleaned up and details replaced where needed. Ready for the client to base & paint.
