Brother Raphael Reinvented
After much thought and reading a few ideas, some interesting events occurred. Someone on the Bolter & Chainsword forum asked if anyone had tried using the Chiurgeon backpack from the Fabius Bile model for an Apothecary. The very next day a box of Space Marine parts that I had purchased blind on Bartertown arrived. Among the contents was… an untouched Fabius Bile model. The more I looked at it, the more ideas that came and suddenly I could no longer resist the urge to rebuild Raphael. Once I had the pack off I soon realized that the arms were going to need to be removed to properly get this configured and sculpted. Off with the arms. One of the comments I had received about the original version was that I had covered up the heat vents for the suit and it would overheat. I explained it away saying the new pack took over that job, but that idea stuck with me. The new pack didn’t cover up all of the vents as it sits up higher.. I decided to add vents that were actually larger to carry the ide that this suit is highly modified, rather than a few extra bits stuck on.
I snagged the vent backs from a Typhoon missile launcher from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue (I have almost 2 dozen at this point.) Chopped and glued together they’re just slightly wider and taller than my flattened Terminator back. Glued in place with the Fabius pack pinned through it, it looks pretty different. The base layer of putty to blend the vents in is in, just needs filing and a smoothing layer to finish.
The head had the light on the side removed as when the hood was added it looked really odd. The hood and tabard are complete. Raphael still has a ways to go before he’ll be ready to serve.
