My youngest son Mason (11 years old) wants to play 40K with me. So I figure we’ll learn the game together. He’s got all of my old RT beakies and plays his own wargames with them in his room when he’s not building some fantastic Lego creation. At any rate, he loves the beakies so building him a Space Marine army is a no-brainer.
After showing him the new 5th edition codex and all of the glamor shots, he initially wanted to run White Scars. When I recently talked to him again he had changed his mind and wanted Salamanders. Completely different play style (bikes vs. troops.) After some discussion I determined that the White Scars were attractive to him as he liked the colors, but the Salamanders for the flames and other cool elements, except for the jet black skin. “Too bad I can’t make up my own chapter.” Why the heck not? So after some tinkering the White Salamanders were born.
The White Salamanders
The White Salamanders are a Salamanders successor chapter. As such, they follow all of the tenets of the Salamanders, simply a different look. The plan is to base them on a volcanic-active ice world or something. The primary color will be white and green for the trim. Scaled cloaks/cloth/etc. will be green with white scales. Since Mason likes the beakie helmets (unlike me), they’ll actually find a place in his army.
The core of the force will be built on Assault on Black Reach squads for cost and convenience. He’s already expressed an interest in fielding as many Dreds as he can, so a Master of the Forge will likely be included in a larger force to enable that. Now to find the time…
