How to Paint a Monster-sized Warcaster in Just 14 Days???
That’s right, 14 days from box to sealer. Eeek! Not to mention I lost several days due to family obligations like my brother’s wedding, but that’s life. All in all, I ended up spending 20~25 hours on this guy. He needed many more, but I was under a hard deadline so I cut a lot of corners and experimented wildly. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Here’s Terminus assembled and primed black in his assemblies following Mike and Ali McVey’s article: Terminus very closely.
Shortcuts
My first shortcut was to pull out my white primer and dust each assembly from the top down. This simulates light falling on the surfaces from overhead to show me where the highlights should be very quickly. The second shot is to show you the scale of this monster against some other WARMACHINE figures you might recognize.
You might remember Dead Dogg’s speed painting technique he introduced with his Mercs. I’ve been toying with a similar vein, only using glazes (what else? 
) over the gradated primer instead of oils. Since I don’t own a working airbrush or any oil paints this seemed like a logical solution.
Fortunately for me the mad experimenting paid off pretty well. I was in such a hurry I didn’t have time to take in progress pics, but I will be revisiting this technique next month as I seek to perfect it on K2. In the meantime, here is Terminus finished. He even managed to take 5th Place in the Large Figure category at GenCon Indy 2005 and 2nd Place in Best Warcaster in the Privateer Manufacturer awards! How I don’t know, I must have bribed the judges pretty well somehow.
