Man-O-War Assembly

Demolition Corps

I’ve heard a lot of complaints about difficulties in assembly for the MOW DC’s. While I admit they’re more complex than the Shock Troopers, they still follow the same basic rules and share similar parts.

Know Your Letters

The most important thing to do when starting out on a box of Demo Corps is to make sure you have the proper parts. There are 3 different poses: “A”, “B” and “L”. Each part for the arms has a molded letter in the casting. All of the “A”s go together, etc. I’ve taken photos and highlighted the letters so you know where to look.

Assembly

Once the parts have been identified and placed in their groups, I set about cleaning up any flash and molding leftovers.

TIP: As soon as you remove the tab with the lettering on it from the maul face, mark it with a marker or in some other way with the correct letter to save confusion later.

Bodies

There is no specific set of legs for each pose. The nice thing about the Demo Corps box is that it includes a slightly modified set of legs so there are 3 unique leg sets in each box. I’ve assembled my bodies in the manner that I described on page one. If you have questions, please refer back to that page.

Pose “L” Assembly

I’ll start with pose “L” (for Leader I assume) as it’s the easiest. The first step is to attach the left arm to the torso. For all of my arms I’m using small blobs of green stuff instead of super glue. This allows me to work with the posing of the arms without having to fight the setting time of the glue. Once the arms are positioned correctly I will smooth out the putty to fill the gaps and sculpt in the chainmail texture to match.

Now I’ll attach the right arm after placing a pin in the wrist and test fitting the corresponding hole in the hand.

Then it’s just a simple manner of gluing the maul to the arm. I’m resting the butt end of the weapon on the base for a bit of extra support and stability. Having only one pin in the wrist makes it susceptible to breakage if struck from the sides. Finished!

Pose “A” Assembly

Now for pose “A”. This is the “holding the maul horizontally” pose on the box front. After test fitting the wrist pins I attach both arms, again using putty instead of glue. I’ve got the wrists positioned higher than they will end up as it’s easier to bring them down and in to match up with the maul than bringing them up.

As I mentioned, the hands are closer together on the maul haft than the arms want to be naturally. You need to pinch the wrists in towards the middle of the body to get them to fit. This is why the putty and pins are so useful as you have time to work with and adjust the pose without fighting the set time of the glue. I’ll get one wrist attached and then bring the other in to meet it. Once both wrists are attached then it’s just a matter of centering the shoulders and sculpting the putty to fill the space. Set it aside to dry and this one is complete.

Pose “B” Assembly

Finally we come to pose “B”. This is the “holding the maul overhead to smash something” pose on the box front. I use the same exact method as for pose “A”. Attach the arms and the the maul to the arms.

One thing to consider with this pose is storage and transport. It looks really cool on the table, but will take up a lot of space in a foam transport tray.

Conclusion

So to wrap things up, the Demo Corps aren’t as complex as they may seem. I highly recommend pinning Man-O-War models of any flavor. Not only does it increase the durability of the model, but makes assembly much easier to accomplish. You can also create a variety of poses by mix and matching legs and arm sets. Also you can cut and turn the maul head to create a different look on the “A” pose. Now get out there and trash some warjacks for the Motherland!

Until next time.
