Project: Obliterator Cult – Completed

Darn Details

Did I say sculpting was next? Silly me. Of course not. The mechanical details need to be added first. What was I thinking?

As I sat down to start sculpting I came to that realization. Oops. Nothing an evening with cutters, drills and bits won’t cure. I started rummaging through bits bins, looking for anything tech-oriented. From my reading in the Codex, it says Obilterators “exchange their services for the opportunity to claim ancient technologies or capture exotic wargear from the Imperium and alien races.” So basically they are high-tech Lootas. :)

I found a few Tau Crisis Suit heads and thought the optics would be good to use. The SM Terminators all have cameras on stalks mounted to the top of the suit. (I was wonder what was missing from the Chaos versions.) The optics relay information and targeting data to the wearer. Why wouldn’t Oblits do something similar? An idea is born. I came up with a few more bits for these and set about installing them.

The boot soles have all been trimmed up and the arm stubs filed off at the angles I want for mounting the arms. I didn’t shoot pics as I was working as it was late and I was tired.

Stickman

For Stickman I started off with dressing up the leg with a couple of hoses. They add visual bulk without really bulking it up too much. A Tau Crisis Suit head for a targeter with attached hose. Then I ran lines from the chest to both weapon arms using 22 ga. floral wire.

No Clever Name Yet

This guy has the second Crisis Suit head, just turned backwards. The feed into the eye socket is classic GW/Blanche.

Arnold

Arnold here (named because of the half human/half robot/tech head) had a nose job to remove it. Since I used the same head on another one I wanted to differentiate the two. I found another Tau head, not sure which suit it’s from. I lopped off the nubs for the antennas on the sides and filed down the front angle to disguise it a bit more. A hose to feed the data to his brain and he’s set.

Zaphod

For this guy I grabbed a Dark Angels Techmarine head from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue. Why not use a whole head? Hoses and wires for feeds along with a rounded off bit of brass rod for another optic and he’s ready.

Captain

A simple mod, just add the servo skull from the Devastator sprue. The stalk will need to be bulked up or it will snap off if you sneeze near it.

Skully

Continuing the head/skull theme for this group, I snagged a little blown out skull from the Black Reach Terminator base decorations. Some hose feeds into the cavity and it almost looks like it was designed that way.

NOW it’s time to bust out the putty…
