Lighting Breakthrough!

I’ll admit, I was apprehensive buying these new LEDs off of the ‘net, sight unseen. When all you have to go by are numbers it’s a bit nerve-wracking. I got them in today and boy am I happy! The size is perfect, the light produced phenomenal in comparison. Take a look.

The miniature green sun on the left is the new LED, the one on the right is the old one. All that light from something so tiny! (My daughter thinks I’ve gone nuts.)

Now for the fit check. It slips right inside the stack channel I’ve bored out.

And now something I was too disheartened to try before, and actual light test on a stack.

Better than I had even dared hope. I’m sitting here, trying to remove the evil grin from my face and it’s not working. :)

It’s not all good news though. It looks like the resin test is a bust. It’s still tacky, which means either I mixed it wrong (hard to mess up a 1:1 ratio) or the resin is too old / cold.) I’m going to try another test using a Hirst Arts mold to see if the silicone can take it. It should, assuming I can get it to set up this time.

In the meantime, I’m off to enjoy my little green suns. Just like Yoda back on Dagobah with Luke’s lamp. *cackles*
